Human Resources: the Dutch Labour market
The Dutch labor market is known for its highly trained employees, flexibility, industrial stability and sound social security. . Dutch employees are among the most linguistically talented in the world. This allows the Dutch to serve customers worldwide. The Dutch government ensures that the level of employee training is commensurate with the demand on the job market by, for instance, facilitating training (via tax incentives) and stimulating innovation. As a result, the Netherlands has the highest percentage of employees in Europe who take part in training programs to acquire new skills. Dutch laws regarding employment contracts offer employers a range of possibilities to engage employees in a flexible way, enabling employers to quickly meet temporary demands for labor.
The Dutch “poldermodel” system, which values consultation and consensus, guarantees balanced employment relationships, not only at a national level but locally as well. There is broad support on the shop floor for a stable working environment. The Dutch social security system provides a minimum income guarantee for persons who are unable to generate an income for themselves. There are compulsory types of insurance for the most basic coverage, such as pensions (retirement), illness, disability, death of family members, or unemployment.
