- 15 hospitals within 15 km (9 miles)
- Regional connections: Medical Delta, an open innovation network of 3 universities, university medical centers and industrial partners
Medical Delta Initiative
Rotterdam is part of the Medical Delta initiative. This initiative is driven by the synergy of the universities of Leiden, Rotterdam and Delft. Located within a radius of 14 km, the partners have an increasing number of major collaborative efforts based on their complementary expertise.
Opportunities for entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs are of vital importance to move the newly developed medical technology from idea or academic prototype to the market, where it can benefit healthcare. In Rotterdam, numerous opportunities are created for entrepreneurs from large and small businesses.
Life-science companies such as Viroclinics (Ab Osterhaus), River Diagnostics and Crosslinks (medical Visualization) have, for example, established offices in incubators such as the Science Tower, which boasts laboratory facilities and has appropriate zoning permits.
Other areas in development in the life sciences hubs are: “Hoboken” (an expansion project around Erasmus MC), “Science Port Holland” and Maasstad Ziekenhuis.
